Materials:
* paperboard pizza round or cake round, 13" in diameter or bigger
* a 2" or wider cylinder at least 12 inches long  (you could use a water
bottle with the top cut off, it can be a large round bottle of baby wash, the center
just needs to be sturdy), our cardboard tube is 3" in diameter.
* packing tape
* diapers in at least two sizes (we used size 3 & 5)
* ribbon in at least two widths, several yards of each
* small baby items: spoons, booties, bibs, t-shirts
* small stuffed toy for cake topper
* tissue paper to partially fill cylinder so toy doesn't disappear
* a yard or a bit more of thread elastic (not part of gift)

The credit for this idea goes to www.babycakesinc.com , home of the original
diaper cake.  Most crafters will have the majority of these items on hand
(except for the diapers/gifts), making this a quick gift to "bake".

Tape the cylinder to the center of the paperboard round.  Use as much tape as
needed to make it sturdy.  We stamped a wee baby face (Stampin' Up!) near the
edge and sponged the round as well.

We are using black elastic thread to more easily show you how to hold the
diapers in place.  The elastic thread was made into a circle about 3/4 the size
of the paperboard round.  We took about 6 folded #5 diapers to start and
layered them about an inch apart to start the first layer.  We kept adding diapers
until the the layer was full, but not so tight that little gifts couldn't be inserted.
Gifts are added at a later step.

Secure layer with decorative wider ribbon and remove elastic.  Start next
layer(s) with smaller diapers.

The last two layers are made using the elastic thread as before, just with the
smaller diapers.  We stuffed tissue paper down the cylinder to prevent froggy
from disappearing in the center.  Small gifts were added into the layers all
around the cake.  The extra diapers were packaged into a box and wrapped as
an additional gift.
