1.  Materials:
* a 5" x 8" Junior legal pad cut in half (see note directly below)
* a 2 3/4" x 11" piece of cardstock
* a magnet
* any other desired embellishments
* glue stick

2. Purchase your package of 5" x 8" junior legal pads at a large
    office supply store.  Take them over to the Copy Center or
    Business Services Center.  For a small fee (one or two
    dollars) or sometimes free they will slice these pads in half
    for you with their large paper knife.  It is important to tell
    them to remove them from the plastic wrap and only cut 2
    or 3 at a time, as they will otherwise slip slightly in the machine
    and not be evenly cut.

3. Stamp cardstock.

4. Using the full length of cardstock (11"), it can be folded onto the
    note pad in several ways:  a.) you can cut it to length (not shown)
    b.) it can be folded down flush to the spine of the pad, covering
    several inches of the lined paper  c.) or you can line the edge
    of the cardstock with the front spine giving the note pad a
    longer appearance allowing the length of the lined paper to
    show.

5.  Glue cardstock onto note pad.  Embellish as desired.

6. Optional: Adhere magnet to back.

7. Variation:  To add more color and variation to the front of
    the note pad, cut small strips of cardstock, in desired colors,
    similar in width to the cover (2 3/4" wide). They should
    measure around 1/2"  by 2 3/4" . Stagger them so that about
    1/8 inch of each one's color shows just at the front edge
    of the note pad.  Glue the strips to the cover, then glue the
    cover to the note pad.  They can also be decoratively cut
    before gluing them into place.
